This writer has often seen this fish for sale in coldwater tanks with goldfish.
But Frey, who often gives minimum temperatures,
doesn't mention this fish as being suitable for cool conditions. Anyway I've
found that it will happily spend a couple of months out in the pond during mid
summer, in a warm temperate climate, but I won't risk having them out for longer.
Sucking cats come from Thailand, are undemanding and do an excellent job of
cleaning up algae. There is now a golden variety on the market. The name 'Sucking Cat'
is, of course, a misnomer as is not a catfish. The common name "algae eater" is
perhaps more suitable.
